Trekking Equipment List

Plan your clothes so you can wear them in Kathmandu as well as on the trek. Clothes that are sturdy and functional are the best choice. Modesty is the best policy in Nepal. In the mountains, women prefer skirts. The locals will react differently to you in jeans. Shorts are considered very risqué. Trekking skirts of colorful local design are available in Kathmandu.

NOTE:
  • It is possible to pick up almost any item last minute in Kathmandu....So don't panic if you haven't found the right hat an hour before the flight.
  • Once in Nepal, we will check everyone's gear to insure safety and comfort. Many members rent special items (a second sleeping bag, parka, or rain gear etc.) during our days in Kathmandu. There are wonderful outdoor gear rental shops. Expect temperatures reach 60's during the day...and down to freezing at night.
  • All gear should fit in your daypack and duffel bag. The equipment taken into the mountains can weigh no more than 35lbs. This is due to domestic flight restrictions, and the fact that porters will be carrying two or three of these. (All you carry is you day pack!) Extra luggage can be safely stored at the Hotel in Kathmandu during the actual trek.
  • It is our philosophy at HTE to prohibit the giving of gifts to locals and children along the trail, except in special circumstances. With our good intentions we can create beggars. Ultimately all we really have to share with them is our selves!
